Post a comment at the bottom of the page sharing your thoughts about the Iceman Cometh and you can win a pair of Optic Nerve Omnium PM in Black with Rose lenses! (pictured below)

Listen in to another great episode of Girls and Gears with Danielle Musto, she is joined by Mackenzie Woodring.

They caught up on the season and talked about the upcoming Iceman Cometh race in Michigan. Mackenzie is a definite favorite going into the 2013 Iceman. In 2012, she finished an extremely strong 4th place, only two seconds off of first, behind Georgia Gould, Emily Batty, and Heather Irmiger.

By piloting a tandem for the U.S. National Paralympic Team, she won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China.

What a great episode! I recently had the privilege of meeting Mackenzie along one of the Ada Bike Shop’s Woman Rides and she was so sweet! I’m a newbie to mountain biking and I was so thankful for her help and encouragement! If I don’t end up doing the slush cup this year I will all in next year! This episode was a great way to also learn about the full iceman, which I hope to do maybe in a few years .

Thanks for the great episode. I've been working on getting my spouse into mountain bike racing for the past few years and finally got her to try Chequamegon this year. Any tips on which races to push her towards next. I was thinking Ore to Shore or Iceman?

  • Heather McNamara (Friday, October 18 13 12:22 pm EDT)

Iceman is a great event. If you're riding a trail in Michigan in September or October almost any rider you talk to will say they are going to race Iceman! It is a great way to end a season of racing. The hardest part is staying motivated to be in top form after such a long season of racing. It is such a party atmosphere it is always fun no matter how you do. And I think Leah should win the prize. ;)

I need to get in the Iceman again after a many year hiatus! Miss the fun and pain of the event (and the many beers after!)

  • Bryan Coleman (Friday, October 18 13 12:55 pm EDT)

Truly inspirational, It's great to hear that someone from the West Michigan area is doing such big things.

I can't wait to see you girls on a tandem fatbike at Iceman next year!

I have been following Woodrings success this season as she is on the same Foundry bike as I am. And I am thinking that is what is making the difference, haha! I probably wont make it to the Iceman, our Utah CX season is about all I can handle at the moment.

  • Bonnie Van Volkinburg (Friday, October 18 13 01:56 pm EDT)

Great Interview Danielle! Mackenzie is my hero! ;) This is such a great platform to spread the love for the sport. Also, I loved Mackenzie's recap of Iceman - felt like I was re-living it.

  • Kenny Patenaude (Friday, October 18 13 02:14 pm EDT)

Mackenzie's story about Heather and Emily attacking and then crashing into each other, at the Iceman Cometh, is golden. Great interview.

  • hollyanne samuelsen (Friday, October 18 13 04:19 pm EDT)

Thinking about racing! Never too old. I love cycling.

  • Sarah Jaromin (Friday, October 18 13 04:47 pm EDT)

I am super excited for my first Iceman this year! Maybe one day I will be as cool as Mackenzie Woodring, but for now I will just continue to dream ;)

    Is it November 1st yet!?!

  • Tom Work (Monday, October 21 13 12:42 pm EDT)

Really cool stuff. incredible the amazing personalities out there in the cycling world. When are Danielle and MacKenzie going to do a MTB race on the tandem?? :-)

  • Danielle Musto (Monday, October 21 13 01:41 pm EDT)

@Tom Work Maybe Mackenzie and I can race a mtb tandem next year at one of the Triple Crown races. With her as my pilot I won't even need to pedal :-)

  • Brynne Roberts (Monday, October 21 13 02:29 pm EDT)

Loved this interview! Can't wait to see her on the podium this year! :)

  • Dana Baurhenn (Tuesday, October 22 13 09:41 am EDT)

Enjoyed listening to this interview while commuting to work this morning! Especially loved Musto's comment, "I'm spinning right now"! Haha!

Have a great race this year at Iceman Mackenzie!

  • Jill Martindale (Tuesday, October 22 13 11:07 am EDT)

This could very well have been my favorite episode of Girls & Gears yet! Mackenzie and Danielle are both amazing riders and inspire me to really push and challenge myself. This year will be my first Iceman and hearing Mackenzie's re-cap has helped to mentally prepare myself. (Thinking about short sprints and high speeds on a fat bike still makes me feel like I want to vomit, though.) I can't wait to see how Mackenzie and Danielle do this year!!

  • Heather and Sage (Tuesday, October 22 13 02:28 pm EDT)

Great interview! Mckenzie, thanks for sharing the love and fun of the sport. It was great to hear your positive attitude in spite of your setbacks and taco'd wheel early in the race. Love the "don't give up" mentality. Iceman is 'nuts' and 'awesome.' "Wheel" be cheering for you!

  • Matt Leonard (Wednesday, October 23 13 12:28 pm EDT)

Great interview. I loved the discussion about the Paralympics. You should get Blind Bobby McMullen on some time. That guy is such an inspiration.

Thanks for the Girls and Gears show! I love the female perspective on bike racing and the laughter throughout the shows :-)

  • Alysa Bradley (Wednesday, October 23 13 09:59 pm EDT)

Looking forward to following your seasons! Good luck next weekend!

  • Jeremy (Thursday, October 24 13 10:42 am EDT)
